Dear Fans:
For the first time in 26 years, Tri-State professional football fans will see the Steelers play their home games in a new setting.
With increased costs and the rapid advancement of pro football, it was imperative that the Steelers find a home of larger capacity than Forbes Field. It was with reluctance that we made this decision; for, in 25 years, our relationship with the Forbes Field management has been excellent.
After the Pirates exhausted every effort to increase the capacity, we took our problem to Mayor David L. Lawrence andd it was through his efforts that we are playing in Pitt Stadium today.
The Steelers and the National Football League are extremely grateful to Mayor Lawrence, who, in the face of many pressing duties in building a better Pittsburgh, demonstrated once again he is a man of many interests by taking the leadership and paving the way for the rental of this facility.
Various organizations recognize the Mayor as a devotedd friend of the opera, the symphony, the civic light opera and many other culturall attractions of this community. We, in the sports field, consider him also as Pittsburgh's No. 1 sports fan - a firm believer in the progressive growth of our entertainment and recreationall opportunities, in both amateur and professional sports.
We are indebted to the University of Pittsburgh's alert Chancellor Edward H. Litchfield, the board of trustees, the University's athletic department. In the spirit of cooperation characteristic of Pittsburgh's progress, they have agreed to lease the Stadium to the Public Auditorium Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
We also would like to express our most sincere thanks to the hundreds of thousands of TriState sports patrons who, through the years, have supported the Steelers and other professional sports teams in this area.
In our opinion, this enthusiastic support only can be rewarded by producing a winner this community so richly deserves. This we are pledged to do.
